Is pest control safe for children and pets?
Modern pest control can be carried out safely around families and animals, but “safe” depends on the product used, how it is placed, and whether you follow the re-entry instructions. Treat any absolute safety claim with caution — a provider who attaches no conditions at all is telling you what you want to hear.
What genuinely reduces risk:
- Placement over spraying. Gel baits and enclosed bait stations put the active ingredient where the pest goes and children do not — inside cabinet voids, behind appliances, in tamper-resistant housings.
- Targeted application. A crack-and-crevice treatment applies far less product than blanket fogging, and puts it where it works.
- Observing re-entry time. This is the single biggest factor and it is the one under your control.
Ask your provider for the product name and its safety data sheet. A provider who cannot produce one on request is a problem regardless of what they charge.

How long before we can come back into the house after treatment?
Re-entry time depends on the treatment, not on a standard number — so get it in writing from the technician who did the work. It commonly ranges from “immediately” for enclosed bait placements to several hours after a residual spray, and much longer for a genuine fumigation.
These are different jobs and people use the words interchangeably in Pakistan:
- Gel bait / bait stations — no vacating; the product is enclosed or placed in voids.
- Residual spray — vacate until surfaces are dry and the space has been ventilated.
- Fumigation — a sealed gas treatment. Nobody re-enters until the space has been cleared, and clearance is a measurement, not a guess.
If a provider tells you a fumigation needs no vacating, they are not performing a fumigation.

What should I move or cover before the technician arrives?
Anything that goes in a mouth: food, utensils, pet bowls, children’s toys, and fish tanks. Everything else can usually stay where it is.
- Food and utensils — into sealed containers or the fridge. Clear open counters.
- Pet bowls, bedding and litter trays — remove entirely.
- Aquariums — cover and switch off the air pump; fish are far more sensitive than mammals and the pump draws treated air into the water.
- Toys and dummies — out of the treatment area.
- Cabinet contents — for cockroach work, empty kitchen cabinets so the technician can reach the hinges and voids where they actually live.
Pets should be out of the property during treatment and return when you do. Tell the technician in advance if anyone in the house is pregnant, asthmatic, or immunosuppressed, or if you keep birds — that can change the product chosen.

Is rodent bait dangerous to my dog or cat?
Yes, if it is placed loose — which is exactly why it should never be placed loose. Rodenticide must go inside tamper-resistant bait stations that a pet cannot open, secured so they cannot be carried off.
There are two separate risks. Primary poisoning is your pet eating the bait directly. Secondary poisoning is your pet eating a poisoned rodent, which is why carcasses should be searched for and removed rather than left.
In homes with pets or small children we will often recommend trapping instead of bait entirely. It is slower and needs more visits, but it removes the poisoning risk and you recover the carcass rather than discovering it later by smell inside a wall.
If you think your pet has eaten bait, go to a vet immediately and take the product packaging or a photograph of it with you. Treatment depends on what was used, so the label matters more than any description you can give over the phone.

Should I mop and wipe everything down after the treatment?
No — and mopping too soon is one of the most common reasons a treatment fails. A residual product is designed to stay on the surface so pests pick it up as they travel. Washing skirting boards and cabinet edges removes exactly what you paid for.
Do wipe food preparation surfaces before you use them. Leave the treated edges, corners and behind-appliance areas alone for as long as the technician specifies — commonly a few weeks.
Ask which surfaces were treated before you clean. It takes thirty seconds and it is the difference between a treatment that lasts and one that needs repeating.

Do you offer child and pet safe pest control?
Yes. Child and pet safe pest control is the default approach in any occupied home — it is about method and placement as much as the product itself.
What makes a treatment child and pet safe in practice:
- Placement over spraying. Gel and bait go inside cabinet voids, behind appliances and in sealed, tamper-resistant stations — where pests travel and children and animals cannot reach.
- Targeted application. Crack-and-crevice work applies a fraction of the product of blanket fogging, exactly where it is needed.
- Registered and approved products only, with the MSDS supplied for your records.
- Trapping instead of bait for rodents in homes with pets or toddlers, wherever practical.
- Clear re-entry instructions, in writing, from the technician who did the work.
Tell us in advance about pregnancy, asthma, small children, pets, birds or fish. All of them change the recommendation, and a provider who does not ask is not planning around them.

Is fogging safe in a house with a baby?
Fogging is the treatment we are most likely to advise against in a home with an infant — usually because it is the wrong method for the problem, not only because of the baby.
Fogging disperses fine droplets through the air of a whole room. It kills flying insects present at that moment and does very little about cockroaches, rodents or termites — the problems most homes actually call about.
For a house with a baby the better approach is almost always targeted: concealed gel and bait placements, crack-and-crevice application, and proofing. Far less product, placed where a child cannot reach, and more effective against the pest you have.
If fogging genuinely is required, everyone leaves, the room is ventilated thoroughly afterwards, and cots, toys, bottles and feeding equipment are removed or sealed beforehand.
Tell us before the visit if there is an infant, a pregnancy, asthma in the household, or pets, birds or fish. It changes the recommendation.

Is pest control safe during pregnancy?
Tell us before the visit and the plan changes. It is not a reason to live with a pest problem, but it is a reason to choose the method carefully.
What we do differently:
- Placement over spraying wherever possible — concealed gel and enclosed stations rather than open application
- Trapping instead of bait for rodents where practical
- Targeted crack-and-crevice work instead of treating whole rooms
- Scheduling so the person is out of the property during and after treatment, with extended ventilation
- Written re-entry guidance, not a general figure
We are also happy to advise where the honest answer is prevention rather than treatment — sealing gaps, fixing a leak, clearing a drain — which sometimes solves it with no product at all.
The same applies to infants, elderly or immunosuppressed household members, and anyone with asthma. Mention it when you book.

We keep birds and fish. What precautions are needed?
Birds and fish are far more sensitive than cats and dogs. Tell us before the visit — it changes both the product and the plan.
Fish and aquariums: cover the tank completely and switch off the air pump before treatment begins — that is the small aerator that bubbles air into the tank. It works by pulling air from the room and pushing it through the water, so if anything is in the air it goes straight into the tank. Leave it off until the room has been ventilated, then uncover.
Birds: move cages out of the property entirely if possible, not just to another room. Birds have highly efficient respiratory systems and are affected by airborne exposure at levels that would not trouble a mammal.
Reptiles and small pets should also be removed for the treatment period.
Where sensitive animals cannot be moved, we plan the job around them — concealed bait and enclosed placements rather than any airborne application, and treatment confined to specific rooms.
Mention it when you book, not when the technician arrives.

Is it safe to cook in the kitchen after treatment?
Yes, once the re-entry time has passed and you have wiped the food preparation surfaces. The treated areas are deliberately not the ones you cook on.
Proper kitchen work is placed where pests travel and food does not: inside cabinet voids, behind and under appliances, along hinges, in cracks at the wall and floor junction, and in the drain line. Not on counters, not on shelves where open food sits.
What to do before cooking again:
- Wait out the re-entry time the technician gave you, in writing
- Ventilate the room
- Wipe counters, the hob and any surface food touches
- Leave the treated edges, corners and behind-appliance areas alone — cleaning those removes the treatment you paid for

Can pest control be done without chemicals?
Partly, and more than most people expect. Proofing, trapping, heat and hygiene do a great deal — but some pests genuinely require a treated product.
| Pest | Non-chemical options | Chemical usually needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Rodents | Trapping, proofing, hygiene | No, in most homes |
| Flies | Source removal, screens, light traps | Rarely |
| Mosquitoes | Source reduction, mesh | Only for water that cannot be emptied |
| Cockroaches | Hygiene, drain seals, proofing | Yes for an established population |
| Bed bugs | Heat washing, containment | Usually yes |
| Termites | Physical barriers at build stage | Yes for an existing building |
Where a treated product is needed, the safer route is placement rather than spraying — concealed gel and enclosed stations put far less product in the building, in places children and pets cannot reach.
Tell us your preference when you book. Where a non-chemical approach can do the job, we will say so.

What if a child or pet touches a treated area?
Wash the skin or paws with soap and water and keep an eye on them. Serious reactions from incidental contact with a correctly applied treatment are uncommon.
What to do:
- Wash the area with soap and water rather than just wiping it
- Rinse eyes with clean water for several minutes if affected
- For pets, wash the paws and coat where contact occurred, and stop them grooming until dry
- If anything was swallowed, or if there is vomiting, breathing difficulty or unusual drowsiness, seek medical or veterinary help immediately
Take the product label or its photograph with you. Treatment depends on what was used, and the label tells a doctor or vet more than any description can. Every one of our reports names the product, and the safety data sheet is available on request.
Prevention is simpler: observe the written re-entry time, and keep children and pets out until surfaces are dry.
