Ants — Identification & Biology
From pharaoh ants contaminating hospital wards to carpenter ants destroying wooden structures, Pakistan's 40+ ant species range from minor nuisances to genuine health threats.
Relative activity index based on Pest Orbit IPMS field monitoring data — Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad (2019–2024).
Year-round warmth keeps ant colonies active. Pharaoh ants are a documented problem in Karachi hospitals, pharmacies and food processing facilities throughout the year.
Black garden ants and pavement ants are prolific in Lahore gardens and older construction. Monsoon season causes severe indoor invasions as colonies relocate from flooded areas.
Green urban environment supports large ant populations in gardens. Indoor invasions common during monsoon as outdoor colonies seek dry shelter.
Health, Property & Economic Risks
Understanding the full risk profile of ants helps property owners and facility managers make informed decisions about treatment priority and programme scope.
How Pest Orbit Eliminates Ants
Our ISO-certified Integrated Pest Management process is designed to eliminate ants permanently — not mask them temporarily. Every step is documented on your IPMS digital portal.

Ants Questions — Pakistan
Answers from Pest Orbit's Ph.D. entomologists covering the most common questions from Pakistani homeowners and facility managers.
Monsoon rains flood outdoor ant colonies, forcing them to seek dry shelter indoors. Rising damp also drives subterranean colonies upward into building voids. This is why ant activity surges dramatically during and after heavy rainfall across all Pakistani cities.
Most consumer ant sprays use repellent pyrethroid formulations that scatter (bud) colonies rather than eliminate them — temporarily reducing visible ants while spreading the colony to new areas. Effective control requires non-repellent gel bait that workers carry back to the queen.
Most garden and kitchen ants are harmless nuisances. However, pharaoh ants in hospitals pose genuine infection risks, fire ant stings cause painful reactions that occasionally trigger anaphylaxis, and carpenter ant infestations can cause structural damage. Professional species identification is recommended.
Gel bait programmes take 1–3 weeks to eliminate a colony as workers distribute bait to the queen and brood. Results are slower than sprays but permanent. Pest Orbit's treatment includes a follow-up visit to confirm colony elimination.
